I need the best truck engine that is powerful, but wont break the bank on gasoline?
I'm restoring a 61 ford unibody and I want a powerful engine, but I dont want it to hava a ridiculously low mpg...
I would have to disagree.
Gas mileage is based on how hard the motor has to work to move the car. You could get a really sweet motor and still save gas
You should worry MORE about the transmission that will go with it.
I don't know ford trans at all, so you will have to ask someone else.
Get a trans with lock-up function, and overdrive.
I drive a Corvette with a built up motor and get 30+ MPG on the highway, and 19-21 MPG round town all because the trans I have (700r4)
The biggest influence on MPG is the driver's foot - no lie.
If you mash the gas all the time... you mash the MPG's too.
If you take your time to get up to speed, you'll have decent MPGs
