What is the easiest way and what grit of sandpaper to use to take car back down to metal?
I need to take the clear coat and paint of my car i was hopeing to take it all th eway down to the metal. Prime it, then take it to be painted.? What sandpaper would be the best to use, and best primer? Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance!
That depends on what tools your using.
If all by hand, then 36 or 40 grit to strip car
If elec sander 60 grit
If air DA sander then 80 grit
Really if you want to strip down to bare metal its ALOT easier to use a chem stripper than sand metal for your primer.
I use aircraft brand paint striper to do this with. Apply, let sit and then use a plastic scrap to just peel and push the paint off.
wipe/wash down, dry, wash with grease and wax remover and then sand with 120 grit, blow off, wash, dry and shoot your primer on it
